Koh Samui, Thailand's southern paradise island is the third largest island in the Kingdom and lies in the Gulf of Siam. Chaweng beach with its white powder-fine sand and crystal clear water is recognized as one of the finest beaches in the world.
Koh Samui is a tropical island with a mountainous interior comprising mostly coconut palms (about 2.5 million of them), coffee and rubber plantations. There are many interesting things to see and mountain paths, waterfalls, secluded beaches and unique rock formations abound.
Whilst most visitors spend most their time on the beach, there are many other things to do including elephant trekking, a visit to a crocodile farm, watching local monkeys work the coconut plantations or visiting the aquarium and butterfly gardens. Culturally there are many Buddhist temples and places of historic interest.
Water sports of every description are available along the beach and provided by private vendors including water skiing, windsurfing, sailing, jet skiing, paragliding etc.
Some of the best Scuba diving and snorkeling sites in Asia are to be found on nearby islands and are ideal for beginners and experts alike. Organized diving and instruction is available from numerous PADI approved diving operations located near to Poppies.
A short boat ride away is Angthong National Marine Park consisting of 47 unspoilt islands, which you can visit with organized excursions and enjoy snorkelingkayaking or just exploring.
Renting cars and motorbikes is easy but make sure you bring your International driving licence with you. There are few rules and for the most part we drive on the left! Be prepared to drive defensively and slowly.
